On the Beach

On the Beach
Before Room 4 and 20 went to camp we searched the beach for crabs.

There were loads of crabs. My friend Patrick found 7 or 8 crabs under a rock. He picked up the biggest crab and he called him Steven. I held Steven. He was as hard as a brick and as slimy as seaweed. I picked up a few crabs and found a rock with a little bit of water beside it, for my crabs.

I like playing with crabs at the beach I wish I could go again.

Flying Kiwi

Flying Kiwi Fun

At 8pm the Cereal Killers,
a night time activity group of some boys, went to the shed to get a harness and helmet!

We put the helmet and harness on. Next minute we were at the Flying Kiwi. Caden was tied on to the rope. The lady instructor yelled, "pull wings pull." We all pulled hard and up Caden went!

Soon it was my go. I'm scared but glad. I go up. oh god! I hit the top!

I’m down and I go to get desert and play spotlight.

Flying Kiwi

Early morning on Wednesday we woke up and had our early breakfast, we got dressed and off we went to the hall. Everybody seem so tired. Our last activity was the Flying Kiwi. We went outside and waited for our teacher. Finally she came and her name is Liz.

First we had to listen to some safe instructions and put on our helmets (very tight} and put on our harnesses. It gave me a wedge. After when we listened carefully we got to have a try. We hold the rope very tight and 123 UP SHE GO she was like a real kiwi flying up.   When it got to my turn I got nervous but in the both time I got really excited. Up I go and go and go and……. hurray  I’m on the top but then it dropped  ahhhhhhhhhh it got me a fright. After on I got tired and very hot and I felt like I am going to burn up red like a fire. On the second round we got  throw two toys up in the sky and  throw the toys into the hoop. It was so hard to get it in the hoop. All that hard work from the pulling the rope the time was over. We all  were  tired and had to have a big rest.

I would want to do the Flying Kiwi {even if it was hard} but it was very fun!!!!!

Cat and Mouse

Wainui Camp 2013-03-12J
At Wainui it is so fun and exciting. We did a lot of things there. One of my best things was the cat and mouse game. Everybody was sitting in a big circle. Two people had blind folds on.
In their hand they had a shaker each. One shaker made a big sound and one made a little sound. The big sound was the cat and the little sound was the mouse. The cat nearly tagged the mouse but the cat missed and every body was laughing.  The cat was next to the mouse but the mouse didn’t know that the cat was next to the mouse! Every body was laughing about that thing.
And at the end the cat tagged the mouseJ.

The Steep Hill

 Going Down the Steep Hill

Blood pulsing at break neck speed. Feeling nervous. I edged slowly down the steep winding road.  My only life line, a single rope tied to the branch of a tree. I looked down. I was dizzlingly high up, I felt sick.

I couldn't  move, I was scared stiff. Then suddenly the sand under my feet started to shift, I was slipping!!!

I regained my balance, but I still felt petrified. Then I noticed people shouting behind me. Someone shouted, “hurry up!” For a moment I felt infuriated thinking, "they have no idea what it’s like being terrified of heights!"

I saw the beach just in front of me. I thought to myself, “you can do it - almost there.” When I finally got down I felt proud, relived
and I
couldn't
believe what I had just
done.

The Flying Kiwi

The flying kiwi was awesome. When you had to pull the person up at the front you went up in the air. When they call you up they put a chest harness on and then the lady clips you in.The people pull hard on the rope you go up and up. When you are at the top you can see the mountains.

The shouts and squeals of delight filled the air as everyone from Room 4 and Room 19 explored the rocky beach.  I was excited too, because it was a school day and we were not at school!

For some people it was their first time ever on a beach.  Not for me, but a beach like this one is special. It's special because you can only explore it at low tide and that's when you find the crabs.

I don't think anyone believed Mr. Harrison when he told us that we would find crabs on the beach.  It didn't take long.

On our way back form the peninsula walk our anticipation was building.  We scrambled down onto the rocky shore that the sea had recently revealed.  The we started.

Almost every stone you turned over had a crab hiding under it: large, medium, small and tiny!  You had to look closely because the crabs were so well camouflaged in the muddy water.  They mores quickly to disguise themselves, but nobody seemed too worried by the small crabs and most people found the courage to hold one carefully in their hand.

A few brave people picked up the larger crabs by their body. As our bravado and knowledge grew about how to hold them without getting nipped more people had a go and caught them too.

There were other things besides crabs on the beach...

Not a school day
First time for some
Camp is fun
Beautiful day
Crabs of all sizes
The seagull skull
rock creatures like aliens from another planet

Packing
Be responsible for your own packing.
Try and pack your own bag.  Use your gear list to check everything off and pack what you need.
Mum or dad could check what you have packed once you are done.

Pack your day bag with:

  • morning tea
