Illuminated Letters

In the Middle Ages books were all made by hand.
Books were hand written - not printed.
Religious books were the most common and many of these were copied out by monks.

Many people could not read and books were very valuable items.

Illuminated letters were used as a special decoration in books to add importance and interest.

Use one of your initials for your own illuminated letter design to be added to your artefact box.

Create your own illuminate letter

1. divide a new journal page into 4 and sketch out some ideas for your letter design
2. include a border with symbols, icons or patters and designs
3. add designs inside or around your letter too
4. colour with strong contrasting colours or use a selection of tones
5. choose between a crayon and dye effect or pen, pencil and felt pens
6. finish off by using a puffy paint / glue to make the outline of your letter stand out

Week Ten Dance

We are learning about the elements of dance and how to use them to create our own unique dance.

BATSER

Body Awareness - being aware of your own body, what it's doing, how you move it

Timing - making a connection between the music and keeping in time with others as well as the beat

Space - using the space - all the corners and different levels - tracing out a space through your movement

Energy - unitising different levels of energy in response to the music

Relationships - working with others - moving together, mirroring, shadowing, showing a connection or disconnection

Inspiration Watch these dance groups and notice which elements of dance they use well.  Can you identify some movements that might be useful to you for your dance?

SHARKS

Sharks are amazing fish that have been around since long before the dinosaurs existed. They live in waters all over the world, in every ocean, and even in some rivers and lakes.

Unlike bony fish, sharks have no bones; their skeleton is made of cartilage, just like the bendy part of your nose.

Sharks continually shed (loose) their teeth. Some can have up to  35,000 teeth in a lifetime. For this reason shark's teeth are a common fossil found in rocks.

The most ancient types of sharks lived 450 million years ago.

Afternoon Art

3. Draw your creature / object silhouette outline on to card and cut it out

4. In your journal write two or three different TEXT ideas to put on your silhouette photo art
