Ötzi "The Ice Man"

Here is another frozen fossil.  This really is like a time capsule because this frozen man was found with tools and possessions that help to build a picture of life in the past.

This video is a little spooky - but incredible.

Have a conversation with your talking buddy about the ice man.
Take turns to listen to the other person - remember what they say because you can only report back what the other person said (not your own thinking)

Frozen in Time part 1

Here is an incredible version of an accidental time capsule.

A baby wooly mammoth frozen and perfectly preserved for thousands of years in Siberia.

10,000 Year Old Frozen Mammoth Found Perfectly Preserved in Siberia

The BBC is reporting on the discovery of a mammoth carcass found preserved in Siberian ice for at least 10,000 years. The carcass is that of a juvenile mammoth, about 2 1/2 years old, that researchers have dubbed "Yuka." Its flesh, and even hair, have endured astonishingly well over millennia buried in ice.

Time Capsule

Imagine that you find a box buried in your garden.
It looks old.

What questions come into your head about this thing?
What are you thinking?
What are you wondering?

After the Christchurch earthquakes a mystery capsule was discovered hidden in Cathedral Square.

NOW imagine you are going to fill a small box with items that could be used to tell a story about  you and what your life was like in 2013.

Imagine your box was hidden for 1000 years before it was opened by another living person!
Just like the discovery of the tomb of an Egyptian King!

Things to consider:

Your time capsule should be personal and meaningful. 
You are creating a personal window into history.
You should keep in mind that your capsule needs to represent part of your own history.

Items like: 
photos, scrapbooks, movies, books, newspapers, mini-models, a CD of favourite music, a news paper clipping, a menu from your local fish and chip shop, a small toy, old money, a pressed flower, a diagram of your house, a map of where you live, a ticket to the movies or a sports game or a plane ticket, a mini map of New Zealand, a copy of a grocery bill, a self portrait... a letter to someone in the future
